In short

Two external counters run on this site: Yandex.Metrica, which counts visits, and the Google Ads tag, which measures whether our Google ads bring visitors who go on to hosting providers' sites and leave reviews. Both set their own cookies. Visitors from the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked first — see “Cookie consent” below. Who else can see data is covered under “Who receives the data”. We do not sell data. Everything else we collect is needed to run the site itself.

What is collected without an account

Page visits — the address of the page you open and the address you came from. This tells us which sections are useful.
Technical cookies and browser storage — your chosen theme, language, comparison list and your answer in the consent window are kept in browser storage (localStorage). Until you agree where we ask, and after a refusal, the browser also keeps the sf_consent cookie — it tells our server not to set the sf_vid cookie. Anti-attack cookies are set by DDoS-Guard, the service that shields the site from overload; without them the site does not open.
Yandex.Metrica counter — counts visits and the path taken through the site. It sets its own cookies and passes visit data to Yandex, which processes it under its own rules. Session recording (Webvisor) is switched on: the counter records how you scroll and click on the page and what you type into fields — except password fields, whose contents are not recorded. The counter does not run on the password reset and email confirmation pages or in the site's staff section.
Google Ads tag — measures what came of a visit from our Google ads: whether you went on to a hosting provider's site and whether you left a review. To do this it sets Google cookies (for example, _gcl_au) and passes to Google the address and title of the page you opened and these two events; the review event carries only the review's number, with no text and no name. Google processes this data on our behalf — for advertising and for measuring its results. We do not turn on advertising based on your behaviour (remarketing). The tag does not run on the sign-in, sign-up, password recovery and reset and email confirmation pages, in your account (except the “My reviews”, “Auction” and “Advertising terms” sections) or in the site's staff section.
Web server logs — IP address, request time, browser. Kept for no longer than 30 days and needed to protect against abuse.

Cookie consent

Visitors from the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland see a window with two buttons on their first visit — “Accept” and “Decline”. We tell the country by your browser's time zone, without asking any outside service, so with another country's time zone the window may not appear, and with a European one it may appear outside these countries too. Until you click “Accept”, and after “Decline”, Yandex.Metrica does not load at all, our log does not set the sf_vid cookie, and the Google tag works without cookies or browser identifiers — from such signals Google only estimates the results of advertising overall. Google also detects these countries by IP address on its own and works there without cookies until you choose. A browser “do not track” signal (GPC or DNT) counts as a refusal in these countries. If you decline, the whole site keeps working.

You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page — it is available to every visitor, wherever you come from. After a refusal the Metrica and Google cookies on this site are deleted, and if Metrica was already running, the page reloads without it.

Our own behaviour log

Besides the Yandex.Metrica counter we keep a log of our own. It records the addresses of the pages you open, the address of the site you came from, and clicks on the «Buy» button leading to hosting providers — together with the page you clicked it from. This serves one purpose: to see which pages of the catalog help you choose a host and which lead nowhere.

Clicks on advertising banners go into the same log: the same kind of record as the «Buy» button, and the same cookie. Banner IMPRESSIONS — how many times a banner came into your view — are counted differently: they are added up into a per-day total, and those records hold no cookie, no account and no page address at all, so they cannot be tied to you either after 90 days or right away.

To join these records into a single journey the browser is given an sf_vid cookie holding a random number. It contains no personal data — no name, no address, no email: just a random number that means anything only next to our own database. The cookie lives for one year. The journey itself is kept for 90 days, after which the number is erased from the records and there is no way to tell whose journey it was. If you sign in, the journey is linked to your account; that link survives signing out and is deleted together with the rest of the trail after the same 90 days.

You can opt out of this log: with the “Decline” button in the consent window (the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of the page opens it) or with your browser's do-not-track signal — Global Privacy Control (Sec-GPC) or Do Not Track (DNT). With a refusal the sf_vid cookie is not set, no journey is recorded at all, and a cookie issued earlier is deleted on the very next page. In the European Union, the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the log sets its cookie only after “Accept”. Deleting the sf_vid cookie by hand does NOT stop the recording: on the next page the browser is handed a new random number, so the journey starts over instead of stopping. Blocking cookies for this site stops the log as well, but it also stops sign-in from working — the session rests on the same kind of cookie.

What is collected when you sign up

Your email address and username — to sign in to your account.
Your password — only as an irreversible hash; it cannot be recovered.
Reviews, ratings and support requests — what you wrote yourself. Reviews are published under your username.

Who receives the data

There are two counters on the site — Yandex.Metrica and the Google Ads tag described above; there are no other counters and no social media pixels. Besides them, two services the site cannot run without see data: DDoS-Guard — all of the site's traffic passes through it, so it sees your IP address and requests — and the email service that sends our emails: it receives the recipient's address and the text of the email. We do not sell data. Links to most hosting providers' sites are affiliate links, and such a link tells the provider that you came from us. Following a link to a hosting provider takes you to their site — from there their own policy applies, which we do not control.
